A Productive Earth Week for SIG

Earth Week is always a busy time for Sustainable Investment Group (SIG), and 2015 was one of the busiest so far. Here is a brief recap of where we were, and what we did to help celebrate Earth Day and Earth Week with our clients.

Earth Week in New York

photo of Earth Day Celebration | Sustainable Investment GroupSenior Sustainability Consultant, Asa Posner, spent his Earth Week supporting lobby events for Paramount Group at multiple buildings in New York City including 1633 Broadway, 1301 Avenue of the Americas, 31 West 52nd St., 745 5th Avenue, and 900 Third Avenue. Several buildings performed tenant surveys on alternative transportation and thermal comfort, where some great prizes were raffled off.

SIG’s President and Co-Founder, Charlie Cichetti, led an all day LEED Green Associate class for a group of leaders in NYC commercial real estate. Thanks to BOMA New York for hosting this great class on Earth Day!

Earth Day in Virginia

Monica Gonzalez lead the Earth Day event at Waterview in Rosslyn, VA (metro DC) where LEED-EB surveys were conducted, gathering data on alternative commutes by building occupants, and also tenant comfort.

Earth Week in Atlanta

photo of Earth Day at Premier Plaza | SIGCandice and Alyson hosted a table in our home office lobby at Premier Plaza in Atlanta, GA. We showcased re-usable lunch containers. For the green newcomers, there are durable alternatives to throw-away sandwich bags that you clean in your dishwasher. For the die-hard treehuggers, consider a reusable take-out container that you bring to your favorite café or restaurant and, ‘just say no to Styrofoam.’

Candice and Alyson were joined by green cleaners, ABM, and green pest control, Allgood. The icing on the cake was Rise and Shine organic farm selling fresh produce and signing people up for their CSA.

At Candice’s school where she teaches part time, she coordinated some recycling bins to be installed and had the kids make posters & write-ups for the school newsletter about the importance of recycling.

Collin Shepard and Lyndsay Webb attended the Georgia Perimeter College Earth Day Expo on Tuesday, April 21st. Many students came to SIG’s table to ask about LEED and green building, but most were interested in the new technologies and strategies being employed to foster sustainability in our buildings.

There were over 1,000 people who showed up, which kept Collin and Kathy quite busy educating the occupants of the Sanctuary Park buildings on LEED and how they can benefit most from working in sustainable buildings.

Collin Shepard taught a LEED Green Associate introductory course to a group of Construction Management students at Westwood College – Northlake Campus. The students were very interested in how to incorporate green building strategies into their construction practice and many plan on taking the LEED Green Associate exam to further distinguish themselves as proficient in sustainable design and construction.

photo of Earth Week Lunch ’n Learn | Sustainable Investment GroupAshish Bagle from SIG, along with Gibbs Landscape and Advanced Disposal, supported JLL at an Earth Week Lunch ’n Learn for Mansell Overlook’s tenants in Roswell, GA on Thursday, April 23rd. Topics included efficient irrigation and landscape waste reduction techniques, a look into behind the scenes recycling processes, and tips on hard to recycle materials.
