As VP of Development & Strategic Planning, Monica Gonzalez provides insight on the evolving focus and emerging trends within the sustainable built environment industry to help drive company vision. Monica is also the leader for the Consulting Team at Sustainable Investment Group (SIG) and manages LEED certification and sustainability projects nationwide, with focus in Washington, D.C., Boston, and San Francisco.
Monica earned her Masters of Science in Building Construction and Integrated Facility Management from the Georgia Institute of Technology and her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the CIDA (formerly FIDER)-accredited Interior Design program at the University of Georgia. She became a LEED Accredited Professional while pursuing her graduate degree and has earned and maintained specialties in Building Design + Construction, Operations + Maintenance, and Interior Design + Construction. Additionally, Monica earned her WELL Accredited Professional credential early on in the program.
Monica has directed LEED projects covering over 30 million gross square feet and has trained hundreds of professionals in the real estate, design, and construction industries. Her LEED project experience includes the Existing Buildings: Operations + Maintenance, New Construction, Core + Shell, and Commercial Interiors rating systems for space types ranging from Class-A office and mixed-use facilities to warehouses and luxury hotel brands. Monica has designed sustainability benchmarking systems for some of the largest asset and property management firms. She has also worked in promoting health in buildings through industry research and through the WELL and Fitwel programs.
Monica’s passion for fostering a sustainable built environment is rooted in a deep personal commitment and belief in social responsibility, resource optimization, and healthy living.
