ATLANTA – July 1, 2016 – The ASHRAE Atlanta Chapter elected Nick Kassanis, PE, CBCP, LEED AP BD+C, and Senior Energy Consultant with Sustainable Investment Group (SIG) to serve as President for the chapter’s 2016/2017 term. Kassanis has faithfully volunteered with ASHRAE since 2011. As President, Kassanis set two expansive goals for himself and the local chapter. First, foster collaboration with related local organizations (USGBC, AIA, and BOMA) to strengthen regional strategies and initiatives for high performance and healthy buildings. Second, cross-pollinate trends and ideas among ASHRAE chapters around the country. Although based in Atlanta, Nick is a regular attendee at the Golden Gate ASHRAE chapter in San Francisco. He shares insights from direct experience on high-profile projects and market developments in the East Coast sustainability powerhouses of New York City and Atlanta.
SIG is proud to have Kassanis on their team because of his integrity for hard work and initiative to forge new partnerships. He is also a huge asset to the local ASHRAE chapter and has a solid track record of leadership; previously serving as Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary, and Research Promotion Chair. Moreover, Nick earned two awards from ASHRAE Region IV: The Golden Apple and The Lamp of Knowledge for outstanding achievements in STEM activities for K-12 students.
Kassanis holds a Bachelor’s of Science in Mechanical Engineering from The Georgia Institute of Technology, and joined the SIG team three years ago as a Commissioning Authority. In that role, he led teams to conduct Energy Star Benchmarking, perform ASHRAE Level I & II Energy Audits, lead Fundamental & Enhanced Commissioning of New Buildings, as well as Retro-Commissioning (RCx) on Existing Buildings. Nick’s commitment to professionalism and continuing education motivated Nick to earn the designations of Certified Building Commissioning Professional (CBCP) and LEED Accredited Professional in Building Design and Construction (LEED AP BD+C).
The crowning mark of career achievement came in May 2016 when Kassanis passed the exam to become a licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Georgia. SIG recognized this accomplishment with the new title of Senior Energy Consultant. In both professional and volunteer work, he is always contributing creative strategies to work more effectively and provide better service. Whether in a boiler room or the board room, Nick has the fortitude to be a leader in technical execution as well as relationship building.
